Introduction
Alyun (Pronounced “Alien”) is a bilingual and bicultural music producer, vocalist, and lyricist prodding at the complexity of human emotions. Born in 1995 in a countryside town near Nanjing, China Alyun a.k.a. Mel Chen emigrated to California at the age of four. At twelve, she moved back to south-east China and spent her teen years integrated in the local educational and social systems. Fiercely adapative, she nailed the basic language through writing, copying, and singing Chinese pop songs. At the age of eighteen, she migrated to Downtown Los Angeles where she nutured obsession with the notion of communicating feelings through energy and sound. A passionate writer and dancer, she dove into the world of music production fueled by eastern and western pop-nostalgia from the ‘80s-’10s. Alyun’s introspective lyrics and dark yet hopeful melodies cut into the deeper universes tucked in our hearts. Tending to sonical characteristics of new-wave R&B, experimental electronica and future bass, her silky voice and playful production tickle the edges of human vulnerability.
